I think the SMS is a great school. My daughter is very happy there. She is learning a lot in different areas from social studies to science to music! The children are kind hearted and not mean. Besides school, many kids are into theater, music, singing, math club, sports and therefore keep themselves busy and away from trouble. I would like to see more communication between teachers and parents but I still would highly recommend this school.

This school is one of the WORST. my son has a mild form of A.D.D. So they put him in the special ed rooms. in our last school he was on a princables list for getting 100% on every test and worksheet. Now he has straight f's and is going through a severe depression. My son is very bright, he has been recording his own music for 4 years now and hes only 14, he was going to get a scholarship to the boston school of arts, but thanks to sharon schools, his dreams have been shattered

The Sharon Middle School was the big black hole I was told my child would fall into. Even though I kept an open mind. Communication is lacking, especialy from the principal, and the staff just assumes, that your 11 year old child should be independent walking through the doors for the first time at SMS. If you have a child with special needs, well, consider moving out of the country. I have one child with, and one without, both of them would say'SMS was the worst experience, for the exception of some really wonderful teachers' SMS is not a child friendly building, nor is it a parent friendly buidling. I hope the powers that be, can read through all the comments, and see some of the systemic problems. Thank God, we are finally through, not unscathed, but with wounds that will hopefully heal.

Sharon Middle tries hard. The teachers really care. They are overwhelmed, but in the end, my son came out confident and well-educated. The only problem was that he has A.D.D. and was not supported because he did not have an 'official' diagnosis. He was held after school and during lunch for simple A.D.D. things; like forgetting to get papers signed by his parents, etc. I wasn't able to jump through the hoops fast enough for them to acknowledge his disability. His lead teacher told him that she thinks he 'just doesn't feel like doing things'. That's a classic attitude toward kids with this disorder. Other than that, I thought they were great.

My child graduated from the middle school a few years ago and had a wonderful experience there. It is great that kids from the three elementary schools all filter into the one middle school before filtering into the one high school. They all get to know each other and this is terrific. Teachers, for the most part, are great. My only criticism is that since the high school can be quite challenging, the middle school should better prepare them for this, which it does not. Ninth grade is quite a leap, and the brighter kids have learned how to not study, so,there is a problem. Otherwise, awesome!

My child's experience has not been the best. I find some of the teachers don't respond quick enough and notify you when it's too late about your child's grade. The major issue I have is that the students must clean up the lunch tables with disgusting dirty water and sweep the floors. I don't feel it's one child's responsibility to clean the whole table and that everyone should clean up after themselves. At that age you are more than capable enough to pick up after youself. Also, why doesn't the mantainence or the kitchen staff do this? I don't feel the principal or assistant principal have tried to come up with a better solution. In fact, when I questioned them about this I never got a reply.

I have one child finishing here and one entering in the Fall. My experience so far is that the academic quality is good, but could be more challenging. The guidance department seems to be overwhelmed and if you have a problem or concern, parents must be diligent in following up on behalf of their child. The faculty is mostly made up of concerned and highly qualified teachers. Their efforts, dedication and enthusiasm drive children and, as a result, the children look forward to going to school.
